The Character

George Murray is the son of Charles Murray, the 8th Earl of Southampton, and heir to the Southampton title. The Murray estate envelops the smaller Berrington property, making the two families neighbours in the country — a proximity that has shaped George’s relationship with the Berringtons since Catherine was a little girl.

George and Lord Aylesbury are of an age — both around twenty-six — and the two young men undertook the Grand Tour together, forging a bond that predates the London season. Where Nevill is guarded and grave, George is steadier, warmer, a friend who knows the Marquess well enough to see through his composure.
